A senior female executive has said she still suffers with imposter syndrome, despite her success.
Louise Stigant, the UK managing director of Mondelēz International, one of the world’s largest snacks companies. Within her role, she leads a team of 4,000 people across the UK.
However, she admitted doubting her own abilities on occasion.
“I suffers from imposter syndrome, but I know I’m not alone – it is something many people experience,” she said during her presentation.
Stigant has held several leadership positions throughout her career, including managing director of Mondelēz Ireland.
However, she said employees should remind themselves that “no-one is a superhero” – no matter how established or senior they are in their career.
On her advice to other leaders, she emphasised the importance of listening to the concerns of employees. “As leaders, we are so keen to solve and give advice that we forget to listen,” she said. “Take the time to pay attention.”
To people starting out in their careers, Stigant said they should find what they love and pursue it. “Find out what your passions are and follow then,” she said, “then you are more likely to succeed.”
