Kwasi Kwarteng, the chancellor, has released a statement today (3) that the government has abandoned the idea to eliminate the maximum marginal income tax rate of 45 per cent.
He told BBC Breakfast that the idea, according to him, has turned into a “distraction from our overriding mission to tackle the challenges facing our country.”
“We’ve listened to people, and absolutely, there is humility and contrition in that. And I’m happy to own it,” he responded when asked by BBC if he owed the public an apology.
He also said: “The prime minister decided not to proceed with the abolition of the rate.”
According to the think tank Resolution Foundation, the richest 10 per cent have lost more than half of the benefits they were expected to receive from the mini-budget as a result of the decision to maintain the highest rate of income tax at 45 per cent.
At 4:10 PM today, Kwasi Kwarteng will address the Conservative Party Conference.
DISNEY and the National Film & Television School (NFTS) are looking for six young writers and director teams in the UK who come from underrepresented backgrounds to tell their unique narratives.
For this NFTS has joined hands with Disney to launch Disney Imagine UK, a ten-month short film incubator programme.
The final group of six films might have their Disney platform debuts, appear in a high-profile showcase event, and be submitted to international film festivals.
With a £25,000 production budget, each team that is selected will be required to produce an original short film based on the theme “Evolve.” Teams, which can be made up of a single writer-director or a writer and director combination, will be given a platform to showcase their work on a bigger scale.
However, at least one member of the team must be from an underrepresented background. All submitted proposals will be considered and evaluated in accordance with the BFI (British Film Institute)’s Diversity Standards.
In January 2023, six teams will join the programme for the first time. April 2023 will mark the start of pre-production, while May 2023 will mark the beginning of primary filming. October 2023 will see a Showcase occasion.
Applications must be submitted by Sunday, November 6, 2022, at midnight.
